I was brought up attending church with my family and I sincerely wanted to be a child of God.  However, when I left home, I became interested in other areas of life and drifted away from attending church.

In a shopping mall in Sydney a group of people were singing and give out pamphlets.  One particular man showed me from the Bible the experience that the first Christians had.  I read where they received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues as evidence of this.  On my way home I pondered on these things.  I had “given my heart to the Lord” a number of times and now I wondered if possible I still had not received the Holy Spirit as these scripture's described.

I needed to know if what had been shown to me was true or not.

That night I prayed to God to fill me with the Holy Spirit with the expectation of receiving the accompanying sign of speaking in tongues.  I needed to know if what had been shown to me was true or not.  God answered and I was wonderfully filled with the Holy Spirit and started to speak in a language I didn't know.  I had an incredible feeling of joy and amazement come over me at that time.  I realised God had given me something directly from him.

Despite the wonder of this experience, circumstances led me away from seeking God further and in time I forgot this experience.  Yet two years later, I was given another opportunity to again return to God's ways.  My brother, meanwhile, had been 'born again' - been baptised and filled with God's Holy Spirit - and invited me to a Sydney Revival Centre meeting.  I could see that the people I met there were sincere in their faith and it impressed me that people were joyfully talking about Jesus and the Bible any time of the day or week.  I wanted to fully give my life over the God so I was baptised by full immersion in water.  After praying with others, I spoke in tongues again and my life  from that day onwards took a complete turn around.

I found that I could understand the Bible in ways I hadn't ever before.  I had joy, peace and contentment like I'd never experienced before.  Prayers were being answered in my life and for the first time, I knew I was living the life of a Christian every day and not just on Sundays.

I married Kerry and we have raised six children.  The Lord has blessed our every endeavour.  Our five older children have received the Holy Spirit and are growing up in God's ways with the confidence of knowing the Truth and having the expectation of Jesus Christ's return.  I am very thankful to the Lord for the peace and security he gives, especially in troubled times in this world.
